Your notion of Oklahoma as a state of rolling prairies and huge cattle ranches is only partly accurate. In truth, it stretches from the rugged Rockies-meet-Plains of its northwest panhandle to the forested Ozarks along its eastern border with Arkansas. In between are some amazing natural sights, such as a travertine oasis and alabaster caverns, plus the largest tallgrass prairie preserve in the world. The 39-unit state park system is top-notch, and the Ouachita National Forest covers 363,000 acres in the state’s wild, mountainous southeast. Mountains and forests in Oklahoma? Well, OK then.
