Mississippi, the Magnolia State, has 24 state parks and half a dozen national forests, not to mention one incredibly dramatic national seashore. The state is predominantly made up of lowland plains, but the central and northern sections of Mississippi are hilly, culminating in 806-foot-tall Woodall Mountain, the state’s high point in the northeastern highlands. Meanwhile, the southern end is dominated by coastal wetlands, which are a paradise for paddlers, anglers, and beachgoers.
